Job Responsibilities
Under the Chief General Counsel, instructs Academy personnel and students in legal issues and updates using classroom instruction and teleconferencing format.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
Must have a juris doctor degree from an accredited law school. Must be a member, in good standing, of the S.C. Bar and have completed all Rule 403, SCACR requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer one (1) year of experience as a practicing attorney or one (1) year of instructional experience.
Additional Comments
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; interpret and apply laws and judicial decisions. Must be familiar with the dynamics of the judicial process and have the personality and experience to work effectively in the classroom and the ability to develop lesson plans and conduct comprehensive and professional instruction. Trial experience and experience with the State Legislature not prerequisite, but highly advantageous. Knowledge of SC Criminal and Civil laws as they relate to law enforcement, knowledge of federal and state constitutional rulings and state court rules of procedure.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be able to work independently, and as a team, while exercising sound judgement.
Some training will be conducted in the field and will require overnight travel. Must be prepared to work holidays. Some nights and weekend work may also be required. Work hours are generally 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; however, you may be required to teach evening classes according to schedule needs.
