Job Summary and Qualifications
The Managing Counsel–Managed Care Litigation position is a leadership role within HCA’s 270-person global legal department, reporting directly to the Vice President-Litigation. The position primarily acts as the leader of a high-performing team of 15+ lawyers and staff members who handle managed care disputes for HCA that require litigation or arbitration. In this context, managed care involves the relationship between healthcare providers, such as hospitals and physicians, and payers, such as commercial insurers. The position also is a strategic partner to the Vice President-Litigation, assisting with complex managed care disputes and a broad range of litigation, investigative and administrative matters. The position requires strong leadership and organizational skills, as well as strong legal skills, judgment and acumen. The position also requires frequent communication and interaction with business and operational leaders outside of the legal department, as well as the creativity and adaptability to handle a significant and dynamic docket of litigation and arbitration. Finally, the position requires the creation and maintenance of good working relationships with outside counsel.
Responsibilities
· Lead team of lawyers and staff members who handle managed care disputes and related legal matters.
· Partner with the Vice President Litigation on legal, operational and managed care team issues.
· Create and maintain strong relationships and consistent communications with business and operational leaders.
· Provide legal guidance and advice regarding managed care contracting and dispute resolution, as well as compliance with related laws and regulations.
· Manage the litigation, arbitration and resolution of significant and complex matters, principally managed care disputes.
· Engage in the retention, management and evaluation of outside counsel
· Collaborate with legal department colleagues to ensure alignment of company initiatives and goals
Skills and Knowledge
Working knowledge of healthcare or managed care industry
Subject matter expert in the area of litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution

Qualifications
Juris Doctorate (JD)
10+ years of experience in litigation, with experience in the healthcare or managed care industry
5+ years of experience managing a team of attorneys and/or staff members
Law Firm experience
