Summary
Seeking attorney to provide legal services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking including assistance with divorce, custody, child support, protection orders, humanitarian-based immigration relief, and other legal issues.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Represent clients in Douglas County domestic relations and protection order cases
- Provide competent, diligent and trauma-informed representation to clients on individual caseload
- Conduct legal interviews and provide on-the-spot legal advice
- Provide competent and trauma-informed representation to self-represented clients at Self-Help Workshops and Walk-in Legal Consultations
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous client documentation and timekeeping practices
- Conduct legal research
- Support development of WCA Legal Program and Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV) grant implementation
- Engage in effective collaboration with other WCA programs and community partners
- Provide outreach regarding WCA clients and services
- Complete internal continuing education and Nebraska CLE requirements
- Other duties may be assigned.
Education/Experience
Juris Doctor (JD) degree and license to practice law in the state of Nebraska required.
Minimum three (3) years of legal practice as a licensed attorney required.
Preferred Experience (salary Commensurate With Experience)
- Protection order, domestic relations and/or civil litigation experience;
- Experience with T-visa, U-visa, VAWA relief and/or Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) cases;
- Representing clients who have experienced abuse/trauma, clients with limited resources and/or clients who are Limited English Proficient (LEP);

- Understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking issues.
- Ability to work with a diverse client population and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Good working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet and database programs.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Regular and predictable attendance required.
- Responsible for providing own transportation to meet with clients and other community providers.
- Ability to work a varied schedule.
- Maintain confidentiality standards of the organization and in accordance with HIPPA standards.

- Strong preference will be given to applicants who are bi-lingual
