North Carolina Medical Board is currently seeking a Paralegal to join their team in their Raleigh, NC location.
General Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Legal Department Operations, supports attorneys and performs general and legal specialized duties related to legal department functions.
What You’ll Do:
Work in conjunction with Board Attorneys on assigned caseload, including prosecuting disciplinary cases
Provide additional case analyzation, investigation, and research
Draft and execute discovery, pleadings, Board action letters and other documents for review by Board Attorneys
Organize and summarize medical records and investigative records
Obtain and prepare expert witnesses for depositions and hearings
Locate and prepare non-expert witnesses for depositions and hearings
Communicate with opposing counsel regarding coordination of discovery and scheduling, providing investigative documents, service of drafts and executed copies of correspondence, legal documents and pleadings, service of hearing documents, and case updates
Communicate with licensees of the Board regarding coordination of discovery and scheduling, providing investigative documents, service of drafts and executed copies of correspondence, legal documents and pleadings, service of hearing documents, and case updates
Prepare for depositions by scheduling, locating and securing court reporters and videographers, securing locations, drafting notices, preparing exhibits, documents, and copies, and assisting Board Attorneys as otherwise identified
Prepare for, attend, and assist in depositions and hearings as assigned by manager
Maintain docketing and tracking system for internal and external deadlines in disciplinary and ancillary matters and data entry into internal computer management program(s)
Set up and maintain tangible and digital files and operate standard office equipment
Draft, format and proofread correspondence and legal documents
Perform administrative functions such as maintain calendars, coordinate appointments, schedule travel arrangements, answer incoming calls, create, and submit expense reports for self and Board Attorneys, copying/scanning/faxing and mail preparation and distribution
Handle and maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive documents and information
Manage and complete multiple tasks under tight deadlines
Follow through to ensure deadlines are met
Reprioritize workload and tasks appropriately with the assistance of manager
All other duties assigned by director
Our Ideal Candidate:
Education and Experience
Associate degree from an NC State Bar Qualified Paralegal Program; 4-year college degree preferred
North Carolina State Bar Paralegal certification
3+ years of work experience as a paralegal
**Skills And Abilities
** Proficient with Microsoft office software; working knowledge of database systems
Must be detail oriented and possess excellent organizational skills
Ability to multi-task, oversee multiple on-going projects and work independently
Excellent customer service skills
Effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interface with personnel at all levels with a professional demeanor
Effectively work as a team member of the Legal Department
Civil litigation experience, including assisting in trials and trial preparations, depositions, and hearings preferred
Knowledge of medical records and terminology is preferred
Notary public preferred
