Northrop Grumman is seeking a Corporate Counsel – Employee Benefits, to provide legal support across a broad array of employee benefits matters. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, Employee Benefits, this position will deal with matters including qualified retirement plans (pension and savings/401(k)), health and welfare plans and arrangements, executive (non-qualified) plans, and plan assets (trust operations and investments). The plans provide benefits to over 200,000 participants, including approximately 97,000 active employees. The combined benefit plan trusts total approximately $70 billion.

Specific responsibilities include:
•    Partner with multiple lawyers within the law department, as well as across the global company’s functional and operational leadership, including personnel in human resources, finance, strategy, benefits administration, and plan investment operations.
•    Help lead the company in its compliance with employee benefits laws and regulations, and create solutions to mitigate legal risk.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years combined employee benefits law experience at a law firm, in-house legal department, benefits consulting practice or government agency involved in benefit plans regulation
  • Experience counseling clients on employee benefits laws, including but not limited to, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Internal Revenue Code Section 409A, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Affordable Care Act
  • Law Degree from an ABA accredited law school and active bar membership, and
  • Member of the Virginia Bar, be capable of being licensed through testing or comity, or, in lieu of licensure, be capable of registering as an in-house counsel in Virginia in accordance with the rules of the State Bar of Virginia

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing the employee benefits law function of a large and complex multinational corporation
  • Experience advising government contractors
Salary Range: 188320 - 242480
 
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
