Neuberger Berman, a premier global asset manager, is seeking an experienced Real Estate Paralegal to join our dynamic Legal and Compliance Department in Chicago. This role will directly support the Business Attorney to ensures that the Residential Real Estate Loan Investment Team operates within a secure legal framework, facilitating smooth and compliant investment operations.

 

The Residential Real Estate Loans Investment Team is involved in purchasing residential mortgage loans, managing loan portfolios, and engaging in trading activities related to these assets. The team may also be responsible for assessing and managing the risks associated with these investments, performing due diligence on potential acquisitions, and optimizing the performance of the loan portfolios.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the whole loan trading process by ensuring the accurate execution and delivery of trade documents, notices, and related materials on a daily basis.

  • Oversee the organization for all fund-related entities, including managing secretary of state filings, annual reports, and maintaining internal record-keeping databases.

  • Manage and update all legal databases concerning fund documents, agreements, assets, and corporate structures.

  • Support the due diligence process for loan acquisitions, with a focus on resolving title and survey issues and ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Assist loan servicing managers with loss mitigation, servicer oversight, and litigation strategies, including managing foreclosures and REO properties.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to loan acquisitions, sales, and servicing agreements to ensure compliance and protect the firm's interests.

  • Ensure that all investment activities adhere to applicable laws and regulations, including state and federal mortgage lending and servicing laws.

  • Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with residential loan investments, including foreclosure processes and loss mitigation strategies.

  • Manage corporate filings and entity formations related to fund structures, ensuring necessary documentation complies with legal requirements.

  • Provide legal support in handling disputes or litigation, including foreclosure proceedings and other legal actions related to the loan portfolio.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date legal records and databases for all fund documents, agreements, and corporate entities.

 

Qualifications:

  • 3-10 years of experience in real estate and lending, with a comprehensive understanding of title and survey issues, construction advances, and residential real estate lending practices.

  • Prior experience working in a corporate setting is highly desired.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in handling real estate documents, contracts, and residential loan documentation, with a strong familiarity with loss mitigation procedures and foreclosure processes.

  • Expertise in entity formations, management of registered agents, and execution of annual reports and corporate filings across multiple state jurisdictions.

  • Exhibit the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail, with the capability to perform under pressure and adapt to shifting priorities.

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office 365 suite.
