About the team and position

Carvana is looking for an experienced Compliance Partner to join the Labor & Employment team of our Corporate Legal Department. The position supports projects and programs with cross-functional teams and focuses on improving and enhancing policies/processes, training, and practices across the organization to promote compliance with employment-related federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. 

The successful candidate must possess excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.  The role requires exceptional problem-solving abilities, capable of finding solutions in complex situations, balancing business objectives and minimizing risk. A proven self-starter with a positive and can-do attitude.

The ideal candidate for this role also will have a strong background in Human Resources risk assessment, governance, and testing, and have experience using Quality Assurance/Quality Control, or Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA).

This is an on-site/in-person role (5 days/week), based out of our corporate office in Tempe, Arizona. 

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Partner with operational and other stakeholders to identify potential risks related to compliance with employment laws and regulations; assess and document risks and existing controls; assist with the research on processes and best practices; and work with stakeholders to develop appropriate recommendations and action plans to address compliance issues and concerns. 
  • Work with learning and development teams across the organizations and provide recommendations and guidance related to training curriculum and training materials aligned with improving the organization's compliance position.
  • Collaborate with operational and other stakeholders to implement or update company policies and processes to improve the organization’s compliance posture. 
  • Assist with the delivery of compliance related communications, presentations, and training.
  • Monitor employee-related legislative and regulatory changes and developments, analyze their impact on the organization, and timely communicate relevant information to stakeholders. 
  • Investigate compliance issues as they arise; escalate and document non-compliance to appropriate leaders and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage and coordinate completion of periodic government reporting requirements such as EEO-1, Pay Data Reporting.

 

What you should know/have

  • Bachelor's in Risk Management, Business Administration, Human Resources, Finance, or related field (4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum may be substituted in lieu of a degree) 
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in a regulatory or compliance field, preferably in human resources or employee relations. 
  • Strong knowledge of human resources and employment practices including HR compliance concepts and procedures. 
  • Proven knowledge/skills in regulatory compliance, operational risk, and audit.
  • Experience with research, review, and analysis of federal, state, and local laws affecting the employer-employee relationship.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills including recommending solutions in a complex, ambiguous environment. 
  • Strong ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively, and effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a fast-paced, challenging environment with learning agility to adapt to constantly evolving job requirements.
  • Strong proficiency with Google Suite, including Google Docs, Google Sheets (including conditional formatting, data analysis, pivot tables), and Google Slides. 
  • Intermediate critical thinking and analytic skills with superior attention to detail. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

 

We’d love it if you also have

  • Master’s Degree or Certification in HR
  • General knowledge of other human resource functions (outside compliance)
  • Experience with state and federal compliance reporting such as EEO-1, and Pay Data, etc. 
  • Experience using Quality Assurance/Quality Control, or Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA).
  • Proficiency with MS Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel (including formatting, formulas, v-lookups, etc.) and PowerPoint. 
  • Familiarity with Workday, Tableau, Greenhouse, or Tenstreet .
