TITLE: Senior Legal Counsel
LOCATION : New York Metro Area (primarily virtual, but some in person meetings required)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The person joining the team as Senior Legal Counsel will establish an in-house legal function and manage all legal matters related to the company's operations, including corporate governance, contracts, intellectual property, compliance, litigation, and employment law. This role will work closely with senior management to mitigate legal risks and support business strategies, providing clear, practical, and timely legal advice. The ideal candidate will have experience in consumer products, a proactive approach to legal problem-solving, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal professionals.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Develop and execute legal strategies to support corporate strategy, business decisions, compliance and reducing legal risk in company operations.
- Oversee intellectual property matters, including trademarks, patents, and copyrights, ensuring protection and compliance with intellectual property laws.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, particularly in relation to consumer products, advertising, and marketing.
- Manage and mitigate legal risks related to product liability, consumer protection, privacy laws, and advertising regulations.
- Provide guidance on mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other corporate transactions.
- Oversee any litigation, disputes, or claims involving the company, working with external counsel as necessary.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including supplier agreements, distribution contracts, licensing agreements, and other business-related documents.
- Advise on labor and employment law matters, including employee relations, compensation, benefits, and workplace policies.
- Implement and maintain company policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance and reduce legal risks.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations to keep the company informed and prepared for adjustments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in a state bar.
- 7-10 years of legal experience, preferably with experience in consumer products or a related industry.
- Strong knowledge of corporate law, contracts, intellectual property, employment law, product liability, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in overseeing litigation and disputes, with a practical and business-minded approach.
- Experience with e-commerce and international business transactions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Operates with a “win together” mentality.

Salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of our compensation package, which also includes a comprehensive set of benefits and incentive plan. The base salary hiring range for this position is $200,000-220,000 but the final compensation offer will ultimately be based on the candidate's location, skill level and experience.
