We are looking for a Legal Counsel specializing in Environmental to join our team!

In this position, you will provide advice and guidance on U.S. environmental legal matters for distribution pipelines including remediation projects, CERCLA state superfund projects, RCRA corrective actions, exploration and production (E&P) of gas reserves, related litigation, management of external counsel, and other environmental initiatives.

What You Will Do

Provide legal advice and assistance primarily in the following areas:

  • Natural gas pipeline distribution, transmission, and E&P environmental remediation
  • Assist with real estate and right-of-way matters on related remediation
  • Coordination and management of related litigation with external counsel
  • Apply independent judgment in determining courses of action required to perform assignments.
  • Maintain effective communication with all internal stakeholders seeking environmental legal advice and/or updates on environmental remediation matters and E&P environmental activities.
  • Model Enbridge values of safety, integrity, inclusion, respect, and high performance and positively contribute to the professionalism, culture, and role of the Legal Services Department, following the guidance and direction of leadership.

Who You Are

  • 4+ years of legal experience and a J.D from an ABA accredited law school in addition to being a member of a U.S. State bar.
  • Experience in environmental law, including remediation, permitting, and preparing, negotiating, and reviewing related contracts and other agreements.
  • Meticulous attention to detail (planning, scheduling, prioritizing, drafting) but pragmatic in approach while having a high degree of discretion, tact and diplomacy interacting with various levels of personnel, as well as highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • General familiarity with natural gas distribution pipelines, natural gas transmission or storage operations and/or systems.

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in a high-demand, fast-paced office environment with occasional irregular hours, including evening and weekend work during peak times.
  • Regular travel within the U.S. with occasional travel to Canada.
  • Concentrated levels of reading, studying, analysis and focused listening.

Physical Requirements Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Grasping, kneeling, light – moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
  • Ability to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for occasional field visits.

Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.

Salary: Ranges from $112,500– $180,100 based upon experience.

  • Pay credits are between 4% and 11% of eligible earnings, based on age and service.
