This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Legal Department of a sustainable energy company. AVANGRID is looking for an experienced attorney to join its collaborative and flexible office environment to help support the AVANGRID Corporate Development team. This position will report directly to the Deputy General Counsel of AVANGRID and is located in Boston, Massachusetts, or Orange, Connecticut. There are no direct reports to this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides legal counsel and advice to corporate development and other business areas with respect to negotiated acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, confidentiality agreements, non-disclosure agreements, due diligence, structuring and other agreements.
  • Represent the company in major transactions and negotiations.
  • Assist internal clients with contract drafting, negotiation and interpretation.
  • Work closely with clients, other in-house counsel, company management, and, in certain matters, outside counsel.
  • Assist with compliance efforts, including compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations as well as corporate policies and procedures.
  • Support the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel and perform other projects as assigned.

Experience

  • Broad transactional and contracting experience to handle a variety of energy company contracting matters
  • Five (5) years of relevant legal experience with a law firm or in-house position preferred; at least (3) three or more years of practical legal experience, in either a law firm or in-house setting.
  • J.D. degree from ABA-accredited law school and admission to bar of Massachusetts, Connecticut or New York or ability to waive into the Massachusetts, Connecticut, or New York bar.

  • Ability to work on an international and global team, with excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to provide cross-functional support and collaborate with team members across various jurisdictions.
  • Spanish language proficiency not required, but preferred
