The General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) at American Express is seeking a Manager & Counsel to support the Amex Offers marketing consultants and sales teams, which will include drafting AXP’s marketing templates, including the insertion order(s) that support merchant-facing advertising program and ongoing review of B2B advertising sales and related materials.

The GMNS business is a core business of American Express and fundamental to the operation of the American Express global payments network. GMNS builds and maintains relationships with merchants that choose to accept the American Express Card and financial services companies who enable merchants to accept the Card, simultaneously delivering differentiated products and services and driving revenue growth for both merchants and American Express. The GMNS business is responsible for signing merchants to accept the Card, processing Card transactions and providing marketing and other innovative programs and services to grow our merchant and Card acceptance relationships.

Role & Responsibilities

Here’s just some of what you’ll do in this role:

Provide day-to-day legal support to team that promotes the Amex Offers program to merchants, which includes drafting and advising on the merchant-facing program terms; Review and advise on training and sales materials for B2B advertising programs, including Amex Offers; Draft and negotiate advertising and promotional contracts including insertion orders, sponsorship agreements, content licensing agreements and various other co-marketing initiatives. Provide oversight and advisory support to the team that engages in sales and promotion of Amex Offers and related merchant-facing advertising initiatives; Develop and advise on internal B2B sales guidelines and best practices; Collaborate closely with colleagues across the General Counsel’s Organization, including marketing support for other businesses, as well as compliance, privacy and other stakeholder groups, to drive consistency and coordination across the enterprise; Participate in a small team of seasoned attorneys and legal managers, offering thought leadership for cross-subject matter issues and projects.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications:

J.D. with admission to New York Bar 3+ years of relevant work experience in a law firm and/or in-house corporate legal environment Specific experience and knowledge in marketing/advertising support

Preferred qualifications:

Knowledge of advertising laws, including FTC guidelines and UDAAP/UDAP principles Experience drafting and negotiating advertising and marketing-related contracts Strong communication skills with ability to convey advice clearly and synthesize complex issues

Experience with the payments or e-commerce industry or merchant acquiring Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills Self-motivated, high level of personal energy and commitment

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
