Legal Department Overview

Global Payments’ Legal Department is led by Executive Vice-President and General Counsel Dara Steele-Belkin.  The Legal Department is composed of more than 65 attorneys located throughout the US and worldwide, with its central office located at the corporate headquarters in Atlanta.  They work in a collegial, non-hierarchical environment.  

Position Information

Global Payments Inc. seeks a Senior Corporate Counsel to join our team. This position will focus on negotiating agreements for Global Payments’ merchant acquiring and point of sale businesses in the United States and Canada.  Success in this role requires exceptional written and verbal communication skills and being adept at identifying key legal issues, the ability to work independently (though collaboratively), and effectively communicating with internal stakeholders and customers.  

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multiple business lines within the company, senior business leaders, and legal team members, on customer contract negotiations, pre-litigation disputes, and regulatory filings and requests.

  • Draft and negotiate customer facing commercial agreements, including partner agreements, referral agreements, client agreements, master services agreements, statements of work, non-disclosure agreements, and other supporting documents.

  • Support and/or lead department projects and initiatives designed to improve legal service delivery within the businesses.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Law degree from ABA accredited law school and membership in good standing of any state bar

  • Minimum of 3-6 years of relevant experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house experience 

  • Experience negotiating agreements and navigating regulatory requirements in technology, financial services, and/or payments industries strongly preferred.  

  • Strong skills and deep experience in drafting and negotiating customer facing commercial agreements

  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills; strong interpersonal skills essential.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and to multi-task in a fast paced, demanding environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply innovative problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound, practical business judgment while working autonomously.

  • Ability to work independently, but in a team environment

  • Atlanta, Georgia.  Other locations may be considered for the right candidate.
