The Opportunity
RevMed’s sophisticated structure-based drug discovery capabilities are built upon deep chemical biology and cancer pharmacology knowledge, offering stimulating intellectual challenges and creative IP opportunities. This attorney will help oversee a robust small molecule patent portfolio, focusing as the point-person for composition of matter and related cases at various stages of R&D, with an emphasis on platform filings and CMC filings. As the fourth member of the IP team, this attorney will contribute to shaping the IP Department as we continue to grow. This attorney will report to the VP, IP and regularly collaborate with senior scientific leaders and senior G&A management. The Company strongly values IP and will look to this attorney as a trusted strategic advisor.
Prepare, prosecute, manage, develop, and leverage small molecule patent applications, focusing as the point-person for composition of matter and related cases at various stages of R&D, with an emphasis on platform filings and CMC filings.
Identify patentable inventions through frequent interactions with project teams at all stages of R&D and deduce inventorship.
Provide advice concerning the patentability of small molecule inventions and the advisability of filing patent applications covering those inventions.
Manage outside IP counsel to achieve positive, practical outcomes for the Company and obtain advice regarding related risks and opportunities, as needed.
Manage and coordinate patent filings with licensors and collaborators.
Review and advise on proposed scientific publications.
Conduct searches for competitive IP and help monitor and evaluate the competitive IP landscape.
Prepare freedom-to-operate analyses.
Conduct IP diligence and provide other IP support for business development opportunities, including advising on transactional matters.
Assist with the review and negotiation of IP terms of agreements.
Educate and advise the Company on intellectual property issues and best practices in accordance with business needs, consulting with internal stakeholders as appropriate.
Enhance the IP Department’s organizational infrastructure as we grow, including helping create and implement IP policies.
Required Experience, Skills, and Education
Master’s or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or related chemical science.
Admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
J.D. from ABA accredited law school and a member in good standing of the California Bar, or eligible for in-house registration in California.
At least 7 years patent preparation and prosecution experience managing pharmaceutical small molecule matters via law firm training and/or in-house training.
Possess excellent judgment, negotiation, and communication (verbal and written) skills; able to simplify the complex and adapt to audiences with varying levels of legal fluency.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, anticipate challenges, and execute goals as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $210,000 to $260,000 for candidates based at our headquarters in Redwood City, CA. The range displayed on each job posting is intended to be the minimum and maximum salary for the position in Redwood City and will be adjusted for the local market a candidate is based. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, market dynamics, and relevant education or training.
