- Monitor the progress of and maintain documents for major cases and proceedings involving the Company, request decisions, exhibits, transcripts and briefs; attend and monitor hearings and conferences; inform attorneys of pertinent legal decisions and developments.
- Review, analyze, and prepare responses to subpoenas, interrogatories, data requests, hearing and deposition transcripts in complex and other matters, requests from the CPUC and other agencies or parties involved in Company proceedings and other legal documents, as assigned; maintain legal files and correspondence and perform further research on complex topics as directed.
- Assist attorneys in the preparation of complex arguments, testimony and affidavits/declarations in key matters; draft legal documents and briefs on complex topics as assigned; set up depositions and medical exams; summarize medical reports and other investigative information for each case; prepare key and other exhibits for trial proceedings.
- Respond to inquiries related to hearing schedules and case status; prepare and review transcript summaries of complex subjects and key witnesses; prepare rebuttal statements where anticipated and provide recommendations where further development is needed.
- Prepare key witnesses for testimony including reviewing potential complex issues surrounding the case and participating in a simulated cross-examination.
- (regulatory only) 05% (all others) - Conduct advanced legal and factual research on assigned issues, frequently relating to complex, technical matters and key cases; review and analyze complex existing and/or proposed decisions, rules, regulations, and other documents issued by state and federal courts and regulatory agencies (SEC, CPUC, FERC, etc.) and pertaining to the Company and/or its regulated utilities and affiliated entities; review and analyze complex Company records, contracts and legal documents; provide analysis, conclusions and recommendations to attorneys and ensure compliance as directed.
- Extensive communication with Company employees at all levels and with third parties including outside counsel, counterparties, customers and senior executives regarding matters within assigned area of responsibility.
- Use on-line research tools to perform advanced searches for factual and legal information pertaining to the Company and assigned matters; maintain corporate data and legal documents.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Law or related field is required.
- 8 or more years of previous paralegal experience or equivalent training and/or experience in area of legal litigation expertise is required.
- Candidate should demonstrate a sound understanding of legal standards, professional methods, regulations and underlying legal concepts within their area of legal expertise.
- Candidate should work under limited direction guided by project and department operating priorities and expected outcomes.
- Candidate should be able to independently anticipate outcomes, assess next steps and recommend approaches to initiating them.
- Must be able to work in a team-oriented manner in a dynamic fast-paced environment and able to meet deadlines.
- Certification by an American Bar Association approved Paralegal Program or proof of licensed certification pursuant to California law is required. Required
