We’re excited to bring on an AVP and Senior Counsel, Annuities.
This position provides legal counsel and support relating to annuity insurance product development and maintenance, state and federal filings for the annuities business units of Lincoln, and matters relating to annuities service operations. This role will be responsible for providing advice and counsel on product development and service operations activity related to variable annuities, registered index-linked annuities, fixed indexed annuities, fixed annuities, and various riders and features including annuity living benefit riders.
- Provides legal counsel and services primarily to management for the annuities business on legal problems of a difficult and highly complex nature, including emphasis on establishing policies that minimize legal risk.
- Provides legal review, advice, drafting, and negotiation assistance for a range of business contracts, including customer master services agreements, administrative services agreements for annuities administration, nondisclosure agreements, information security / data protection agreements, benefits technology and vendor agreements, and other contracts with third parties, and coordinates and collaborates with other departments.
- Advises on the development and maintenance of registration statements Lincoln’s variable annuity products. Drafts prospectuses, annuity contracts, and other disclosure documents.
- Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends in financial services and insurance products, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.
- Provides legal advice regarding compliance with applicable state and federal securities laws, insurance and self-regulatory organizations rules and laws for variable annuities.
- Provides advice on SEC exams and state market conduct examinations.
- Ensures compliance with laws and regulations.
- Directs outside counsel on various matters.
Must- have experience:
- 10+ years’ experience with corporate legal department focused on financial services or insurance
- 4-year bachelor’s degree.
- Graduate degree or equivalent work experience (6 years of experience in lieu of Graduate) in J.D. from an American Bar Association approved school and a member of a state Bar in good standing is required. (Minimum Required)
- Experience with the Federal Securities Laws including the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Securities Act of 1933 preferred.
